Summary:
UW-Madison has many advanced instruments useful for Biotech material characterization. A number of these are in centers that offer simple procedures for access by industrial researchers. This presentation will present an overview of facilities resources, with a focus on advanced instruments for characterization of physical properties, surface morphology and chemical characterization of biotech materials and cell structures. In addition, a brief introduction to two large NSF centers for Nanotechnology and a related Industrial Consortium will be briefly described.
Professor Hirschmugl, will present the IRENI (Infrared Environmental Imaging Microscope) beamline at the UW Synchrotron Radiation Center which allows high chemical spectral quality and high spatial resolution images of living biological cells.
Finally, Dr. Dong will give a brief introduction of Nerites Corporation antifouling technology and how X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy at the UW Materials Science Center is used to assist the development of novel antifouling coatings.
