  • National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced two new funding opportunities supported by funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvesment Act of 2009.  One is geared towards Biomedical Research, Development and Growth and can be found here; the other is a Small Business Catalyst Award for Accelerating Innovative Research and can be found here.  The deadline for applications for both of these awards in September 1.  Posted June 5th, 2009.

  • Cellular Dynamics International (CDI) announced that it has exclusively licensed a key patent portfolio generated by Gordon Keller, PhD, previously from Mount Sinai School of Medicine (MSSM), surround the differentiation of stem cells into human cardiovascual progenitor cells.  More information available at www.cellulardynamics.com.

  • Lucigen announced it has been awarded two new grants to fund additional research and development.The National Science Foundation has awarded Lucigen $100,000 to further develop a nucleic acid replicating enzyme, which was discovered in a sample taken from a boiling-hot spring. The enzyme has several properties that may be useful in cancer diagnosis and infectious disease detection.

    Lucigen will also share in an award of $300,000 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to develop a simple, point of care test for infectious agents. More information available at www.lucigen.comPosted May 14, 2009. 

  • ConjuGon Inc. announces The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) completed its regulatory review of ConjuGon¹s Investigational New Drug (IND) application for the prevention of Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI).

    This decision clears the way for ConjuGon to begin its proposed Phase Ib clinical trials of C-1205 in indwelling catheterized patients who experience urinary tract infections.ConjuGon plans to begin enrolling patients in the study later this year.   • Prodesse announced today that several clinical laboratories using the ProFlu+ Assay have received Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmation of positive swine flu from specimens initially identified as Influenza A by ProFlu+.   • Prodesse announced today the results of in silico testing of its ProFlu+ Assay that demonstrate the Assay detects the currently circulating swine flu virus. ProFlu+ detects and differentiates Influenza A, Influenza B and RSV. Prodesse is currently attempting to procure isolates so that reactivity with the swine flu strain can be confirmed.   • Prodesse announced today that it has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to market its ProGastroTM Cd Assay as an in vitro diagnostic product in the United States.   • Centrose announces will now receive additional funding by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID). Centrose, a biopharmaceutical company focused on making drugs better using its CarboConnectTM Platform, received notice today from the NIAID that its anti-fungal drug program will receive $280,000 in grant funding.
