Storefront Doors
A storefront door features a large glass lite and is held in place by “glass stops” which are metal extrusions that compress against the glass to hold it in place. Most standard commercial storefront doors use 1/4 inch tempered clear glass but they can accept other glass sizes including insulated 5/8 inch tempered clear glass.
These doors can be used on both inswing and outswing storefront entrances. They can be installed over wood studs, metal studs, block walls, masonry walls and CMU. They require a commercial-grade pivot hinge and should be attached to the building frame at the top and bottom of the door frame.
Unlike hollow metal or steel doors, storefront aluminum doors are relatively light in comparison and are designed to be easily opened and closed by hand. This is an important feature because ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance requires that any exterior commercial front door must not require more than 8.5lb of force to open. Storefront doors also make it easy to display placards, marketing slicks, window displays and digital signage on the glass letting customers know what’s inside.
